Great pub, slightly off the main beaten track, not a chav in sight and a great comfy pub for a drink and a chat. Gets a bit louder Fri & Sat nights but generally not the kind of pub where you have to shout over the music to be heard. They always have interesting bands/events on - and a (free!) table magician on Tues who is brilliant! Sunday roasts are amazingly tasty - attention to detail in veg and meat, rather than a grey slice of beef with soggy carrots, and great value, also special offers on drinks with your meal. Good range of beers and a friendly place to chill out in, what more could you ask! rose_b - 19 Aug 2008 15:54

My girlfriend and I visited a couple of weeks ago for sunday lunch. We ordered one beef and one chicken. The beef arrived promptly enough but the chicken had come blatantly disguised as lamb. We pointed out the error and rather than put it right the rather stroppy female member of staff informed us with her thumb stuck up her a**e that we must have ordered lamb. The receipt proved otherwise and minutes later the chicken arrived - only to be whisked away immediately and placed on another table. We were then informed that our chicken would arrive in approx 30-40 minutes. I had at this point tried a couple of mouthfuls from my beef plate and noted that the beef tasted similar to a description of something I had read about in a History of the Royal Navy (The Nelson Years), and that chef had rather than waste power cooking the diced parsnip serve it up totally raw. We decided at this point to leave and request a refund since we would rather eat together. There was no quibble regarding the refund and we were given a very well rehearsed apology and the manager insincerely hoped that the experience would not put us off coming back another time. Hope he might, but we won't. In general It must be said that the staff seemed genaerally trying to please but were, as a team, utterly hopeless. sweeny8000 - 23 Feb 2008 15:11
Went there on Sunday 25/Nov/07, Gosh..... TERRIBLE FOOD!!!! My beef roast meal came with 3 pieces of toughest thin beef steaks, which didn't taste like properly roasted at all. Sesame and paprika were sprinkled on top of the whole roast meal, I didn't like it all all. Having said all this, they do have great beers there. Very cosy and traditional deco which I really like. Sadly I won't be going in again coz I really can't stand the food. anonymous - 26 Nov 2007 12:42
