Yes this place is interesting. We came here last week hearing good things. on tap was Rutgers, Herd, and Noggins. I tried the Herd and my friend and business partner Tanz tried the Rutger. We sat near the window and looked out onto the delightful Sydenham Road (what a wonderful place Sydenham is!!) Tanz said his rutgers had a faint whiff of summer socks and I had to admit it did smell rather unusual. My Herd was slightly on the cheesy side but palatable nonetheless. We then ordered food. I opted for the Sydenham special (deep fried underpants, essence of christmas cake and Chris Waddle's mullet) and Tanz decided a packet of Landlord's nuts would suffice. The fayre was of a passable variety but the deep fried underpants were a bit tough and like the Herd slightly cheesy. Tanz said the Landlord's nuts tasted lovely, though slightly oversalted. After having a quick wrestle in front of the log fire we said our goodbyes to Enoch the proprieter and headed out onto the spanking boards of Sydenham Pier and had a swim in the Ocean. starvinmarvin - 8 Sep 2009 19:22
It would be a shame for such a landmark pub to disappear, although it was a very mediocre pub indeed for rather too many years. Rich66 - 15 Oct 2007 01:03
The Greyhound closed on 11th August. A property development company intends to demolish it and build a block of flats with a bland, modern bar on the ground floor. The Greyhound is an 1873 purpose-built pub that deserves to be saved. Years ago it was a great pub and it could be again. As soon as you see the yellow planning application form posted up, please sumbit an objection to Lewisham Council. karloff - 18 Aug 2007 14:55
