New Landlords seem to have taken over this decent edge of town pub recently and the improvements show. Decent ales on included Wherry and Adnams with a guest always on my my recent visits. Food was good too and priced reasonably. Homely taverns feel to bar with excellent outside areas. One I will pop into next time and handily close to the Fat Cat. theposh - 6 Jan 2012 09:31
I took the wife and kids to the Black Horse the other day and had a very good meal and a great price! The food was wholesome and well cooked. The atmosphere is freindly, relaxed and the staff helpful. All you can ask for really! The KIDS menu is very good and the drinks reasonable. I was so impressed I am suggesting we book our office XMAS PARTY there as they offered me such a great PARTY DEAL!!! 10 out of 10 BLACK HORSE!! Benson100 - 9 Nov 2011 10:42
took my 11 year old here for dinner, nothing on the menu for kids, although half portions were offered but the food was not what a kid would want, no wine list, ordered the cheapest bottle, the worst wine i have ever had, did't find out the price until the bill came,£13. RIP OFF. i had a steak which was ok, but salad had seen better days, chips were a bit over cooked,my daughter had a jacket spud and that was fine, will return for drinks but deffinately NOT for food and certainly wouldnt recommend it toffeetart01 - 27 Apr 2008 21:33
I had not been to this pub since the change over - under the previous ownership, this pub was a bear pit. What a difference a name makes. With new names above the door and a much fresher and exciting menu, all I can say is WOW! From the moment you walk in the door, it feels inviting, a place where you meant to find yourself. It has it's busy nights, with some great live music - Zoo were a great 80s vocal group and well worth a listen to. The menu has dramatically changed. There are still some of the traditional pub menu items, but then you can almost forget you are in a pub when there are some quite a-la-carte choices and as for the desserts, they can rival any fancy pants eaterie in London. The service from behind the bar and the restaurant staff was top notch, you can tell the staff enjoy being there, which is infectious. The new owners are very friendly too. This is a pub where you can be left on your own or be consumed by and be a welcomed part of the friendly buzz and atmosphere - needs to be put on the map, a definite place to try, again and again and again. nedk - 13 Mar 2008 16:11
ate here recently there were seven of us and we waited well over 45 minutes for our starter to arrive, when it did it was of poor quality, thin watery soup, the chips with the main meal were 'soggy' as though they had been put in cold oil, were pre-cooked and acted like sponges soaking up the oil..yuk would not recomend this place toa anyone certainly will not be going there again, over priced, poor quality, poor service not recomended. smiths - 18 Dec 2007 13:53
