An excellent up-market pub with fantastic (if pricey) food, very friendly and welcoming staff and reasonable beer. There were 3 ales on when we went. The Youngs I had was a little past its best but still drinkable. The clientele was a friendly and sociable mixture and ranged from faces seen on tv to locals, yet eveyone received the same great welcome and service.

Would happily eat and drink here anytime.

Pub was lovely with a nice atmosphere that made you want to sit for the afternoon and relax. On the main the staff were friendly - only the bill was wrong twice! Food tasty but the cheese board was a little (in fact tiny) joke - £7 for the teeniest bit of cheese! Would go again when not feeling very hungry but fancy a nice meal!

Excellent place, not a pub as such - more a restaurant that doesnt mind if you only want a drink. The beer is good and food exceptional. Its a tad on the pricey side but I would say that you definately get what you pay for. Keep your eyes open for celebs in there :)

For any foodie's our there, this place is a must. Set in a lovely village, this pub is actually more of a restaurant (there isn't really anywhere to sit if you arejust drinking). But it does what it does very well.
Tables are always lit by candles, lovely chunky furniture adorns the rooms and tartan rugs are laid over the chair backs. The atmosphere is warm, cosy and romantic.
Although prices are lively you get what you pay for.
The atmosphere can't be faulted. Service has always been excellent and food is fantastic, always using the best of seasonaly produce. (We treat ourselves and go here about once a month) also went there today for sunday lunch and as always, we weren't dissapointed.

I made a brief visit to the Peat & Spade. It has recently refurbished and looks pretty good; appears to be an emphasis on food given the number of dining tables. Had a decent pint of forty-niner.
Set in the pretty village of Longstock.
