I was in here on sat 13th before Burnley game on route from Gatwick airport to cental london . Apparently it had only recently reopened and there appeared to be new bar staff being trained. However this didnt in any way detract from a warm atmosphere , friendly locals , good beer and also a pleasant outside seating area. So hopefully i'll get back some day ! canarly - 16 Aug 2011 11:59
This is an OK pub at the top end of South Norwood High Street so it's a little out of my way. I use it occasionally while I'm waiting for my nosh from the nearby Indian takeaway but at other times too. It gets very busy with home supporters on match days but there's usually a good atmosphere and there's no need to use those ghastly plastic drinking-vessels (can't call them glasses). Regular ales are Abbot & Young's ordinary but there are often guests. rab_noolas - 1 Feb 2009 21:55

Couldn't believe my eyes this evening. Walked into The Ship to see a barmaid sneeze into her hands and then pick up a glass and serve it. She then went on to put away the clean items from the glasswasher Ugh! Is there no staff training policy, no health and safety policy, no common sense? Do they understand hand washing? anonymous - 14 Jul 2007 01:36
