Great pub, fabulous atmosphere, extensive and quality selection of real ales and truly outstanding food served in timeless and well presented style. Well worth going out of your way to visit this pub, in my opinion, it's by some way the best pub in this part of Essex and amongst the best I've visited in the UK to be honest.

Paid a visit in February and there were two nice coal fires to welcome us. Four beers on tap and the food was good at reasonable prices. I will be be returning.

Full of charecter with about 6 different rooms and a small garden at the back..5 beers on I settled for Norfolk Wherrys Nelsons Revenge a bit expensive at 320p a pint..

Other beers were Maldon Gold (a local beer) and Adnams.

Had a walk along the sea wall after with the dogs which were allowed in the bars.

Will return.

My brother who lives close by took me here last weekend. I asked if he could suggest somewhere with 'proper beer and a bit of character'.
Look no further! This is a great pub. Shame I had the car. Grrr! The very low bar height adds to the oldy worldy feel, and the main event was very palatable.
Thoroughly recommended.
