user reviews of the Horam Inn, Horam

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

As from now this pub is under new ownership again, this time by a bright young couple who give the impression really want to have the pub as the heart of the community. Good pint of Harveys and the London Pride is good too.

The pub has had one room redecorated so far (rather too bright and cold for my taste) and the other rooms (and accomodation) are apparently to be refurbished when time allows. I ate there with my family at the weekend and there is a jolly atmoshere and good customer care. Food is clearly home cooked, and is of the good old fashioned pub variety, Ham egg and chips, burgers, steak and ale pie, etc, but with proper home cooked ham rather than presliced rubbish. Once the refurb takes place this could be a little gem.

This pub changed hands (again) about 18 months ago and the Thai restaurant has long since gone. The new management have created an environment that is much more pleasant than before and a lot of the previous regular customers have found somewhere else to go. It is however very quiet and has yet to find a new customer base which is a shame. I haven't dined in the restaurant but looking at the menu, it would appear to be a bit upmarket for the only pub in the middle of Horam and that may be putting people off. If the food, and the prices, were a little bit more ordinary then it would probably be patronised more and that would create a livelier atmosphere which in turn would attract more drinkers to the bar. Nobody likes a quiet pub, no matter how nice it is.

And although not award winning, the Harveys was fine.

We found this pub advertised on the cycle path that runs from Eridge to Hailsham. It described itself as having a Thai restaurant.

There was one 'Thai' dish on the menu - green chicken curry, which was yellow, made with craem rather than coconut milk and tasted more like a bad chicken korma than anything remotely Thai.

There were more staff (4) than dinners and I'm not surprised. The food was awful and they serve one of the worst pints of Harveys I've ever drunk. I had 4 pints, from two different barrels and they were all substandard. Even the lanlady prefers Adnams - which was off.

There's a pool room and a garden, which were deviod of customers despite being a lovely sunny day.

If you're travlling on the A267 - keep going.

Not long ago this place was a real dump, famous only for its shabbiness. Purchased by Punch Taverns it has been completely renovated and is now run by a family who certainly make you feel welcome. The only problem is that they're selling Harvey's and others through swan-necks - but the warmth of the welcome makes up for this.
