user reviews of the Duchess, Dover

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Enter at your peril - drunks falling all over the place, under 18's, whistles being blown in your ear by the drunken hen parties - people falling down on the floor where the disco is being held and don't put your beer down as it gets stolen. The landlord is no great shakes either and is down right nasty - I saw him treat older people with total disrespect - not a great format or advertisement for the town. Listen up landlord and start treating people with respect and open your arms with a welcome and not allow people to blow whistles in your pub - about 8 people all blowing them at the same time absolutely deafening! I thought pubs needed the business these days! Oh dear! Makes the case of staying indoors sipping a glass of wine so much more attractive.

I have sung in this pub many times and in fact people have come down to hear me and then tonite the pub landlord who is now called Mr Grumpy and not just me but others on this site have commented threw me out of the pub because I dared to question the fact that he allowed 7-8 under 18 year olds into the pub - I shan't be visiting this pub again! In fact I shall be taking this up with the Brewery. I have never been barred from a pub and I would say that he probably owes (my niece and I have great voices) money in payment of our services as we are professional singers and went down on a Saturday to let off steam! Don't go there if you want your drink stolen and for to be thrown out by Mr Grumpy himself!!!

Been in a couple of times over the last few weeks.
landlord a bit grumpy, but who isn't in these days.
Beer is very good and really cheap 2 a pint up to 5pm
locals seemed friendly but not many of them only 5 people on first visit and 3 on second. maybe recession is worse than i thought with beer at 2 a pint i though the place would be packed.
Still at least the landlord is trying and once word gets about maybe things will pick up for him. I hope so anyway at least he is trying to get customers.
I will most definitely use this pub again on my next visit to Dover

Normally has one real ale on, most of the time its Bombardier.
Fairly large pub who doesn't do food, well I didn't see anyone eating nor did I see a menu.

The price of the beer is cheap. Has 4 fruitmachines and a jukebox.
