Excellent, if narrow, little pub with five real ales on when I visited. Pleasant 'decked' area out the back, but I don't know what the neighbours think because they must have lost quite a lot of privacy and gained quite a lot of noise after the smoking ban changes. Well worth the walk eastwards from the town centre. rpadam - 25 Jun 2008 22:34
Easily the best of the Gravesend trio tried yesterday, warm comfortable and clean, friendly welcome, decent toilets etc. A more unusual line up here, The local Gravesend Shrimpers was new to me, Dark Star Hophead, Hampshire Ironside Best, Purity Premium Amber Ale, and something I didn't record fully from RCH. Highly recommended. Maldenman - 20 Apr 2008 14:32
Popped in here for 20 minutes before going to watch Ebbsfleet vs Burton. Recommended by the Good Beer Guide and rightly so. This is a friendly local, with an easy-going atmosphere and an extremely range of ale (5 handpulls, my pint Oak Leaf Porter was nice) given the pubs size, along with comfy seating and a nice bottle of Fentimans Ginger Beer for Mrs Quinno. Close to the waterfront and the town centre, but far enough to keep it's identity and keep out townie-types. Main fault (as pointed out elsewhere) is that the bar is often inaccessible because of the rows of old men sat at it - irritating, get rid of some of those bar stools. Small beer patio is a sun-trap. Noticed that for a minimum order of £10 you can get the bar staff to phone you through a takeaway order (menus scattered around the pub) which gets delivered to the bar for you to consume at your table - nice touch. I'll be working my way through Gravesend over the coming months due to MyFC, get the feeling I'll be in here a fair bit though. Quinno - 27 Jan 2008 13:13
Everyone who ever recommends a pub to me in Gravesend nearly always quotes the Crown & Thistle. It seems to have reputation that preceeds it so a visit was long overdue. Actually we did come here a month or so ago after the Gravesend Beer Festival so things were a bit of a blur. The interior is long and narrow, carpeted and with a low ceiling, half panelled walls, old fireplace with stove, beams with jugs, ship pictures and a fair collection of rowing trophies. It’s all very cosy and civilised and a world away from the bustle of the town centre. At the rear is a pleasant courtyard with what looks like a fairly new sheltered area to presumably make life bit more comfortable for the smoking outcasts. It is of course the beers that raise the C&T to the top of the tree; 6 pumps with a good selection of guest beers which included the local Gravesend Shrimper, Everards Sleighbell and Oakham JHB. A pub that carries my endorsement alongside all those who pointed me in its direction in the first place. RogerB - 28 Dec 2007 21:06
The Crown & Thistle is an excellent back street style boozer situated a short walk from Gravesend high street. I paid an afternoon visit today (Jan 30th) and thoroughly enjoyed my time spent here. It is a small, narrow pub with a real glow and cosy feel to it. I sensed that it’s very much a place for the local’s pub but wasn’t made to feel unwelcome and the overly curious golden retriever sniffing about only added to the pubs warmth and character. There is a nice beer patio at the back of pub which will no doubt come in handy when the smoking ban kicks in this summer. This is without a shadow of doubt, the best pub I have visited in the area. Highly recommended. HTM69 - 30 Jan 2007 17:42
