I have visited this pub on 2 occasions on a Saturday night 1st time I witnessed the door men be physically violent to a young guy about 19-22 who had obviously had too much to drink but was in no way a threat. I was asked to go there again by a group of friends reluctently I went along the atmosphere inside was awful I felt as though I had to watch my back all night, and as for the service! The poor barmaid was busy serving and a guy at the end of the bar who I assumed to be the manager (He walked behind the bar at will so this is a fair assumption) just started barking at her to call someone to help her, now surely as the landlord it is your job to make sure customers are served and surely it wouldn't have hurt for him to get behind and serve a few people!!!
Awful pub badly run and horrible atmosphere avoid if possible!!

Never been here on a Friday or Saturday night, but it's good for a cheap lunch. Friendly staff. Only problem would be the considerable distance to the gents and the flies buzzing around our table.

You have to hand it to Vinnnie - he's on the ball as usual.

Given a chance, I wonder what the Management of the Earl of Chatham would write about their own pub? Well, they could create an obvious alias ID, by simply appreviating the pub's name to eoc, leave a 10 out of 10 rating, then leave obvious over the top reviews, stating the kind of information only an insider would quote and call every negative reviewer a saddo...

But surely that wouldn't work? ... Everyone else would see straight through an attempt like that, wouldn't they?

Thanks Vinnie - clearly one to avoid after discounting all the "eoc" reviews!

i see eoc only reviews the Chatham and any one with a negative comment is a saddo, not sure about lunch times as the previous comment states it's probably totally different, but I personally don't like the vibe in here of an evening or Sunday lunch time, and if you check out all the postings for this pub then the majority of us are saddos

This place feels like 2 pubs.

At the front a fairly cozy boozer with big leather seats in the window. At the back, lots of seating in a light wood and brass style not to my taste.

This is the pub of choice for my after work brigade. However, come late Fridays it warps into a bizzarre disco type establishment at odds with it's external appearence.

Fine if you go early. Avoid in the evenings.
