After a good walk from York city centre (about 1.5 hours along the river) found this place... well kept Sam's (not a common thing unfortunately) and... most importantly for me DOG FRIENDLY! perfect!

Watch out for the 'pure brewed lager' though- has a bit of a kick... the walk back was enlivened by a bottle of Sam's 'organic best bitter'

heartily recommend this place.

Excellent pint of Sam Smiths Old Brewery Bitter served in true Yorkshire style with a tight creamy head. I nearly fell through the floor when I got change from two quid for a pint. Although I did not eat, the menu looked good and the stuff I saw being taken to tables seemed to bear this out.

Very welcoming pub, well worth a visit and a good pint of Sam Smiths

Called for lunch on 26th May 2007 - very friendly staff and landlord - ensured we had a full pint without asking. Very well kept beer and good sandwiches and chips. Also noticed they provide water for dogs and have a beer garden at the rear.

They maybe a "local's local" but they also welcome non-locals.
