I used to work here in 1973/4 behind the bar. The Bignell family ran the place then. Joe Bignell, an ex policeman ran the place fairly well, despite the frequent fights and energetic clientele! It was my first proper bar job and I enjoyed it alot, it was always packed at weekends during the summer, with coaches stopping, getting drunk on their way to Southend-on-Sea. I think we were one of the few pubs to take coach loads of trippers from the A13. I worked with "Rob" (from Newcastle) and a tall Welsh guy, amongst others. Everybody was part-time. The Bignell family also worked behind the bars. Where are they Now? Does anybody know what happened to the Bignells after they left the pub ? I recall Joe Bignell's wife dieing suddenly from a heart attack.

Old (flaccid) member - you surely have been watching too many tv programmes mate, sounds like a script from Eastenders!

Quite on the contrary dear boy, the railway Pitsea is a highly civilised drinker, full of articulate and erudite clientele. Once I even saw a regular lay down his coat for a lady to walk through a (piss) puddle in the centre of the bar.

See you's all down there for sherbet soon, gertcha!!

This place was and is the pits. The 'clientele' (and most all of the people living nearby) are the left-over spill from the bad end of London. Come to this pub of an evening, especially during the weekend, for a ring-side view of a knife-fight or a catfight between a couple of women who don't even notice one of their babies being knocked out of the pram, which of course is left outside.
If you have to enter, go to the middle of the bar - you just might get out again without a broken bottle in your face, because the left and right ends of the bar are occupied by arch-enemies.
Of course, if you want stolen goods at a cheap price, you're at the right place - just make sure you never go back there!
I wonder if Lorraine with the big t*ts is still offering it around cheap? Probably too old by now, LOL.
