| A mixed bag this. The pub has it's faults but also has some character which makes up for and balances some of the faults. On the positive side: It has a real proper local buzz to it, seems to attracts nice genuine people as customers and promotes a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which to drink. Looks a little bit basic and jaded inside and out, and probably high up on the list for acquisition by some corporate chain with vast wads of cash to spend on "doing it up" and turning it into some god-awful gastro-city-wanky-bar, and feck knows, we could all do without another one of those. Negative side: Big clear glass windows and position on the main street mean that the place has a bit of a goldfish bowl feel to it. passersby and car drivers can see everything going on in there. I prefer to be a bit more shielded from the street when I duck into somewhere for a few pints. Beer is really quite poor in both choice and quality. Whilst this would normally sound the death-knell for me, I am still drawn there because of the quirkiness and individuality of the place, and my desire to support it as being a little uncommercialised haven in a sea of big chain owned dross. | I like this pub on every level except for the large television in the corner. I find this kills the atmosphere and is totally anti-social.... otherwise a nice London pub with good food and beer. I_like_brandy - 21 Feb 2008 16:32 |
| Not bad this is more of a bar then a straight up pub, back in the 90's im sure the YG had a micro brewery attached to it, however that was in the past. As a bar it's so so but it's functional and inoffensive, nice place for apres work drinkums, so the clientle tend to be office workers from the local environs. I have noticed on a lot of BITE postings that their seems to be a strong odium towards the suit wearing after work crowd, why is that?
