I've been here a few times now, and thoroughly recommend it

The first time was on an accidental pub crawl with a work colleague, where we follishly decided to trek to London Bridge to Waterloo (or was it the other way round)? Anyhow, this little beauty came up - ales on draught were splendid and the atmosphere was all about the pub - music in the back ground was kept quiet, great place for a quiet beer

Second time - Sunday roast and beers. Very pleasant then too, beer again very good and food rather tasty too. They don't scrimp either on portions which is never a bad thing

Third time - Even when rammed, rather friendly. Still a happy atmosphere.

It helps when you have an old Victorian boozer as your basis, but so many get it wrong by either 'updating' the decor to make it look Stoke Newingtonesque with candles etc. (never understood it), or like the Shears (near Farringdon) let it run itself to the ground. Modernise, yes. But not too much - there's plenty of people who want traditional pubs as much as wine bars.

A smashing back street Victorian boozer which is well worth going out of your way to find. Excellent looking front bar with fair selection of Ales on tap with large open rear for eating reasonably priced and plentiful Thai food.

Packed when we visited on a Tuesday night.

However this fantastic pub on many fronts is let down by ignorant bar staff and a we had a virtualy identical experience to runnerbean below.

One of the best pubs in London. A short and pleasant walk from Waterloo Station or Southwark tube, (Incidently, this pub is in Lambeth, the boundary is at the bottem of the street with Southwark). Very busy, but comfortable place. Only problem as with most places, no seats outside for smokers to sit. How about fixing a few painted benches along the side to sit on chaps? Still a very nice pub.

A great, great pub. Lots of pleasant places to sit or stand and a very good selection of well presented beers. A must have address for the true bitter drinker.

I like this pub but when I was there recently the staff were surley AND slow. I was on the side with the smaller bar. It wasn't particularly busy. There were 2 girls serving and a guy collecting and washing glasses. I stood there, and I stood there, then a guy joined me and we both stood there waving our cash and trying to get eye contact whilst people on the other side came and went. Then 'Danielle' finally came over to us and asked the guy what he wanted! Fortunately for me he gestered that I was first (not always the case these days). Then when she served me she skipped him and asked a girl who'd just rolled up what she wanted.

I know noticing who comes to the bar is a skill but jeez it's a skill these guys need to learn.

And I needed wellies to enter the toilet. I only hope it was water!
