I LOVE DIEGO!

I'm starting the Save Diego! campaign, Oh he is actually Colombian and in my opinion he makes the place, each to their own.

Never before have we visited a bar and been made quite so unwelcome. Diego, the Spanish Barman, would make Basil Fawlty seem polite. On arrival, we wanted to make sure they did food before we got settled, so we asked and were told very abruptly to WAIT. The drinks eventually surfaced, and the food was actually very nice (and cheap).

However he made it perfectly clear at 1030 that we were to leave by 11! "I don't get paid after 11pm" he announced. I cannot believe the brewery expects him to work until drinking up time for free but hey.

We were told to get off the fruit machines at 1030, last orders were announced 30 minutes early and the air conditioning started blasting out icy air at 10.50! According to Diego it was "automatic". Funny that - when the whole pub went up in arms it somehow became manual.

Then all the external doors were thrown open at 11.01 and the games began. Random factor closes door, Diego freaks out and opens them. Another random closes door, Diego goes ballistic. Every minute we were told to drink up and leave in the rudest manner possible. Oh - and we bought him a drink to try and cheer him up and he didn't even thank us.

Needless to say we will not be returning to this unwelcoming pub. Let's hope it's demolished along with the rest of Cheapside. With Diego in it!

My favourite bar in the City. What makes it is the staff Diego etc. The Staff are always up for a laugh and add to the atmosphere.

Everything else about the pub is fairly normal but myself and the locals go back regularly just for the atmosphere. A local pub atmosphere in the City Surroundings

A large, spacious, traditional style pub situated in a less than impressive concrete block in the back streets behind Cheapside. Standard set of beers / lagers (Greene King Abbott + IPA) at reasonable prices. The plasma screens are used mainly for sport and there are pool tables and large upstairs bar for dining or private functions. Not really anything to mark it as outstanding but by the same token, there is no reason not to have a decent session here. Popular with after work city drinkers and you don't need to earn £6o grand a year to fit in with the crowd.
