user reviews of the Royal Oak, Curthwaite

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Lovely food for a country pub, always plenty of choice, freshly cooked and nicely presented. Lovely comfy chairs to sit on. Service could be a little better and a more welcoming smile behind the bar when you first walk in would be nice but generally the staff are pleasant and do their best to accommodate you. My husband and I try other places all the time but we always come back to the Royal Oak at Curthwaite.

Its alright, but at the end of the day its just another bar meal.
It is a 'Pub', just with a fancy website.

in defense of royal oak. it's impossible, and i know this as a pub owner, to please the sunday dinner lot. Mostly they like the roasts so 'slow roasted' they literally fall apart ( good for the false teeth wearers) but never a week passes without some moaner. The royal oak curthwaite is a nice restaurant, not a pub, lovely food, bit scatty presentation, but still nice. popular with pensioners and nothing wrong with that. :)

Leone123 - and yet you rated the carvery days of The Refectory in Milford so highly. You could tile a floor with slices of their beef, and grout it with the vegetables.

This is an excellent pub, with great wines and beers. The food is also excellent, although a bit too messed about with for my liking; oh for some simple, not over-done vegetables. And it is impossible to find a pub that serves its Sunday roasts other than well done. The pubs always say that everybody likes the meat well done, whereas I know that it not true.
