Were out with friends and passing so stopped off for a bite to eat,it`s all been referb`ed since our last visit and it looks fab, clean and tidy.Small bar so not a bar flies pub,it`s a Hall and Woodhouse outlet so if you like their beers your sound here (no Tangle foot),but alas if your a lager drinker your limited to one (Hoff Brew yuck).Food was above average (dont have the fish and chips tho.all batter no fish),garden has been laid out well. Worth a drive out. Beersupper - 10 Sep 2008 20:22
(VISITED: Sun 30th April, 2008) I'm not the sort of person to sign up to a website and type up reviews, but this is 1 place I think deserves the accolades. Having just recently moved to Mole Valley from south London, finding the quintessential British country pub to frequent on a lazy Sunday was a priority for my partner and I. After reading the reviews on this site, and others, we narrowed it down to 3 pubs. My partner phoned first to see what time they finish serving lunch. She was told 3pm, so we quickly programmed the satnav, and headed to Walliswood to test this pub for ourselves Our satnav took us on a beautiful but ridiculously unnecessary detour through a forest, and we eventually arrived at The Scarlett Arms 5mins before deadline. Being a traditional pub, and I 6ft 3, I knocked my head a few time on the beams, but thought the place lovely. The barmaid and patrons were very friendly and welcoming. I can imagine whiling away the evenings in such a place. We ordered our meals and took a seat in the dining area. It's a small pub so I can imagine it gets very busy around lunch times, but was quite empty when we arrived. The food arrived quite quickly and we were suprised how fresh it all looked. My partner ordered the Sunday roast with beef (£9.95). This was accompanied with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, parsnips, and a separate bowl of broccoli and cauliflower. I had the rib eye steak (£13.95) which came with tomatoes, chips, a fried egg and a fresh salad. These were not stingy portions either, so a full belly is guaranteed. We both loved our meal. Everything was cooked to perfection, was steaming hot, the roast beef melted, absolutely no gristle. Even the mayonnaise I requested was a revelation! But the best thing about the Sunday roast was the unbelievable gravy. DEFINATELY NOT BISTO!!!! Next time... yes I said it... NEXT TIME I will get there earlier to try some of the puddings because the list looked good. More important for us is the atmosphere or ambience of a place. I have been to many places where as an 'outsider' your are looked on with derision and have bad service as a result. Not so here. From the moment we walked in it was warm and friendly. The villagers there were also engaging and helpful, offering us tips and other places to see. THIS must be the English countryside I heard so much about. We complimented the chef and made a promise to spread the word before our return. Here I keep my word. BigSteveLondon - 31 Mar 2008 13:49
Found this place using this website. Wanted to try somewhere different for Sunday lunch and we didn't want to travel too far away from Dorking. I have to say I felt I was taking a bit of a punt as the comments about this place was mixed but actually it was excellent. I'm not sure what the place was like before being "done up" but I don't really care. From the moment we walked through the door (myself and the missus and our 3yr old little chap) we were made to feel very welcome by both the bar staff and the locals. It has a nice clean and slightly modernised feel. Its bright and warm inside (with plenty of eral fires). The beer was good and the food was good too. Pricse wise £9.50 for a roast seems to be par for the course in the more upmarket pubs so I didn't begrudge that. The menu looked good and we have the roasts of the day (beef/pork) and the boy had the choice of either a child's portion roast or fish n chips or (proper bits of) chicken goujons with chips. He had the latter. The chips were gorgeous. So nice to find a pub that does proper home made chips rather than the frozeon "oven" style that seems to be ubiquitous in most pubs these days. The food was very tasty and more than enough for my appetite. Certainly not measly. The puddings (we mostly ordered sticky toffee puds) were light and delicious. There was a group of 7 of us there including 2 children (ours and ourt friends' 4 week old baby) and although its a fairly small pub they seem to be fairly family friendly (not baby changing in the mens though as far as I could see. Can't comment on the ladies'). So I'm scoring this place 8/10 as we had a lovely time and the food and beer was good. I'd whole heartedly recommend the place. Plus the bar maids were very cute ;-) Jimmski - 9 Dec 2007 15:44
Revisited the Scarlett post renovation (the pub not me) and still has the same relaxed atmosphere and beers. Food has gone from good generous home cooking to food served in tiny pots (ramekin type things). Food tasty but if you have a large appetite might be a tad disappointed. mikey64 - 25 Sep 2007 18:46
