user reviews of Kings Arms, Paul

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I was recommended this pub by some friends who visited there last year. The pub looks from the outside looks what every traditional village pub should look like, and the inside is very cosy. My friends recommended the homemade curry which I found to be very good for a pub curry. The beer was excellent especially the HSD. I would recommend this pub as I found the staff courteous and helpful even to the point that because we have a dog, we normally sit outside in the garden but they said we could come inside and eat with the dog, providing he was well behaved which he is. Food prices run off the mill, not the cheapest but definately not the dearest compared to surban London/Kent. Beer excellent, people friendly, food good, what more could you want.

Well signposted from the main Penzance to Portcurno road, this pleasant stone built small village pub has a sedate but friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The spacious carpeted lounge bar has low ceilings, open fire, exposed stone walls and several heraldic shields surrounding the bar. To the rear is a more basic public bar with bare partly flagstoned floors and a darts area. Ales come from the St Austell range with decent quality Tribute, Tinners and Proper Job at reasonable prices. The food menu appeared to be on the expensive side but as most people (including us) were there for their popular but challenging Sunday quiz, I didn’t see anyone eating. Locals were friendly and quick to chat to us when they realised we were outsiders. The place would probably appeals more to the mature end of the market than to the younger upstarts. Note - the owners also run the Yacht in Penzance and the Logan Rock Inn.

I find it very difficult to rate this pub. It is a nice village inn, selling the excellent HSD beer. However, on the two occasions I have been there for a meal the food has been somewhat disappointing, verging on terrible. On the last occasion the food tasted very much as though it had come out of tins/packets and a member of the party I was with was unwell the following day. Of course we cannot be sure that what they ate at the Kings Arms caused the problem but it has sadly made up our minds not to visit the pub again.
