Simply beautiful village pub with reasonably good value food marred only by a rather surly senior barman. We walked miles to get here so thanks for the warm 'welcome' mister...Other staff very pleasant.

Brother just texted me, £4.10 for a pint of Jennings' Snecklifter.

A decent country pub with well kept Jennings ales and plenty of seating in the beer garden.

A very busy but cosy and comfortable place for either just a drink or for a good meal. Despite being very busy, the staff were cheery and friendly and the beer (Jennings Cumberland Ale) on top form. On this visit we were able to sit outside at the back in the balmy evening air afer a heavy day on the fells - excellent.

After reading the positive on line reviews we visited this pub for a lunch in March 2011 with a view to booking a future long weekend stay. So glad we visited beforehand as we found the quality of food and service from the bar as dissapointing and way below our experience from other pubs in the area (eg The Horse & Farrier in Dacre .... what a find that was). On the positive side the pub location was superb and the waiting staff were helpfull and friendly (they probably have to be to minimise flack). It would appear we caught this place on a bad day but with such a choice of quality pubs nearby we will not chance a return visit.
