I'm not sure if this has changed hands since the last review, but if it hasn't, they have cleaned up their act considerably. Popped in for a business lunch, and had a pretty perfect experience - great coffee, lovely baguette served rapidly, and top notch service. Can't speak to the beer despite the website as I was driving but the old boys next to me did not shirk in piling through three pints of ale in the time I was there and I'll take their demonstration as it being as good as the food. Recommended, especially for drivers on the way through as it has a cracking car park and speedy turnaround on the light food. Nice, homely building too.

My Husband & I went to this pub for a meal this weekend . We both ordered the sunday roast of which we were told was either Lamb or Pork, so we ordered the lamb at 7.95each. The young lad who brought our meal out first of all forgot that we needed cutlery to eat with & then proceeded to bring out our roast dinner ,this consisted of four lamb chops stood together with three hard roasted potatoes & no veg ,when I asked about the veg he said he didn't know but would ask, he then brought us a small dish with possibly one & half carrots sliced & two spoonfuls of very watery broccoli very appetising I don't think. I then had a sticky toffee pudding sweet which was more like a shop bought cake & was only just warm.Altogether it was not a meal I would wish to have again in a hurry.
Even worse than that was that when my husband went to pay for this meal he was charged 14.95 per meal ,when he queried it they said we had had Rack of Lamb , when he refused to pay & stated that we had asked for sunday roast lamb they did at least change it to 7.95 each. Surely if this was Rack of Lamb (even at their own fault) it was very very expensive for the poor quality & amount of food served. I was very disgusted & will not go to this pub for a meal again even though it should be my local.

badger beer was ok,but the staff need to smile,or get a personality.

Rooms adequate but in need of redecorating and refurbishing. Being small they would benefit by being decorated with light colours.

Service excellent both from staff and the woman who looked too young to be the landlady! There was real warmth to their welcome.

The food I had in the bar was very good but a little too fancy for the pub. It would not have been out of place in a restaurant: however I was in a pub and would have been happier with "real pub" food.

The extensive burger menu was what I should have had but only saw the offer on the black board after I had eaten!

However, the breakfast: this was just magnificent. The choice was wide and varied, with the breakfast I chose being presented and tasting better than I have been served in five star establishments.

Next time I visit I shall have some of other choices on offer particularly the fish. I was surprised to see locals do not use the pub for breakfast more as it is open to the public for breakfast.

The ale was good but I particularly liked the extra cold larger, which was a brand I had never heard of but tasted authentically German.

I travel down to dorset once a month on business. Not being able to stay in my usuall hotel I came across The Charlton Inn.... and boy am I glad I did! What a treat. With a warm welcome I was shown to my room, country, homley feel with top notch cleanliness. I enjoyed a pint of local Badger Beer before dinner, crisp and not to heavy. But the menu! Wow! Choices of really exciting dishes. Traditional pub food to complex fine dining dishes. I tried a different dish each one of my four nights stay, all were greatly recived and resturant standard! This could rival alot of my favorite places at home in London. Breakfast menu exstencive and again superb. I want to congratulate this young couple on what they are doing, haed working and nothing is too much trouble. They have put this place on the map for Hall and Woodhouse and Dorset. Will definatley be staying again and hope to bring the family down near Christmas. Well, well worth a visit!
