a reasonably adequate peak district food pub. To be fair the beer was very good, although little choice. To be even fairer, the food was also vey good, I had roast beef. Spoilt by the loud (to me at least) music and the large number of smokers in the garden outside.

Great pub with good local beer, excellent food and pleasant service. The landlord took on the pub 3 months ago and is making a good job of it, giving our group of 11 walkers a warm welcome. Food service was rapid and exceeded expectations.

I had been wary of booking at the pub when reading Dennis' comment of September 2013 and mentioned the comment to the landlord, Ian. He was aware of the comment but believed that a misunderstanding had occurred because there is more than one Royal Oak in the area with similar postcode.

Whatever, I can confirm that Ye Olde Royal Oak, Wetton is alive and well and definitely worth a visit. It was our best pub in a week of walking the Peak District.

Nice setting but a pub with a difference. We booked direct with Brian the landlord for lunches and drinks for a largish party of retired postal staff who wished to visit after a walk.

To our amazement when we arrived, by coach he announced he would not be opening up on the day we had booked for. He explained he had other arrangements and left us high and dry??

Unfortunately for us the coach was delayed in picking us up and we all sat on and around the green opposite the pub for well over two hours during which time some dialogue developed with the locals. We explained our plight and how we had been left high and dry by the landlord. This caused no surprise and it is clear many of the locals choose to travel a little further rather than attend their local which they consider to be inhospitable, unfriendly with poor service and food served with attitude.

The pub looks inviting but clearly is not what it seems and from our point of view was a complete disaster as having taken the trouble to book for a private party, duly confirmed by the landlord no remorse was shown in turning us away.

Stopped here for lunch on a hike on a sunny weekday afternoon, Big bap sandwiches and salad with very generous thick ham, £4, Others a similar price. Pub meals around £8-9. Large bowl of chips (enough for two) £2. Considering its proximity to the touroid honey trap areas of Dovedale and Manifold Dale this place is a breath of fresh air. Non touristy and unpretentious, a proper village pub with non rip off prices and down to earth friendly serving ladies. Join the few elite Peak District pubs still like this and please, please, don't change.

i enjoyed the stay here except for one thing, the church bells, they went off every hour through the night, and every half hour from about 7am.

campsite was ok. the pub was ok and the staff was friendly.

good location to stay for the mainfold valley anf thors cave short walk away.

we had food at the royal oak and it was fabulous., i really enjoyed it, cooked to perfection and decent size portions.

i was also very pleased with the pub as they allowed dogs in the campsite and the pub whilist eating.
