| Just to let you know that our walking group did return a week later on a very busy bank holiday Sunday & the hottest day of the year so far. If anything would catch out the staff this day would. The standard did not slip, well done to the blonde lady who runs the bar & the chef, brilliant service with a genuine smile. Your rating stay's at a 9. John.T - 27 May 2009 17:08 |
| This pub is a little gem. You should read & digest the rest of the reviews because it is not often that I would agree with all the previous comments. Our walking group dropped in at the end of a long walk & received a warm & genuine welcome. The food is very good with freshly prepared veg. The beer, a wide range of real ales beautifully served. And what a lovely old pub, full of unpretentious character. It rates in my top three New Forest pubs. Our group were so impressed we will be going back next week. I rate this one a well deserved 9. | Stayed in Woodgreen over Halloween so this was our local Small pub with a real fire keeping the place warm nicely stocked bar with the Sussex Beer & The Stowford Cider going down a treat The food is rightfully very popular with the mixed grill containing most of the New forest wildlife on a plate great stuff! As with a lot of New Forest pubs it emptied out around 10ish so we had the place to ourselves but there was no pressure to leave and the loudest noise came from our Dog who kept dropping her bone on the Wooden floor ! worth a visit winchesterclub - 3 Nov 2008 13:07 |
| Can't agree more with the previous favourable comments. This is a truly homely pub with very efficient and friendly bar staff with beer and draught cider kept well. The food is great value and beautifully prepared and presented. Very dog friendly in bar area. Wish it were my local ! paddysdad - 30 Jul 2007 15:14 |
| We had a couple of dinners here in the summer and immediately noticed the friendly atmosphere and appreciated the orginal and well prepared food. On the basis of this good experience I organised a family lunch for 16 people last Saturday. From the first contact right through to the enjoyment of the meal, with the help of chef Simon Edwards who prepared a superb and mouthwatering menu for us, it was a pleasure to deal with these people. The pub is rustic, nothing fancy or pretentious, friendly, efficient, and well situated. We had a very pleasant afternoon and it was excellent value. Thank you. Mikecpt - 27 Mar 2007 20:34 |
