| On reading a review headed "average food, terrible service", I felt compelled to add a comment to this. Sorry to see the Nelson was not to your liking. The food has been good there every time I have gone for a bite to eat. You're right, a bar is "Hardly a suitable environment for a small toddler", whether there's smoke there or not. This pub operates, at present a "smoking throughout" policy and clearly states this above the door before patrons enter. Therefor the smokey atmosphere is to be expected and not a fault of the pub or the people who run it and drink in it. I would think that perhaps a brewers fayre would be a better enironment for a child as, after all, this pub is traditional and offers legal drugs (alcohol and tobacoo) to consenting adults. Neither of which are good for your health but rather, it's the choice we make before entering. The Nelson is a lovely freindly pub but yes I agree it's not a place for children. | Average Food, Terrible Service. I was taken to this pub for a Mothers Day treat and was really looking forward to it as I had read the blurb from the pub saying that they were well known for their excellent Sunday roasts... Well, the veg was overcooked, the roast potatoes were burnt, the gravy was salty and the yorkshires were soggy. Even worse though was the service. We booked the table for 1PM and arrived on time etc, however, at 1:55PM, whilst we were deciding whether we would like puddings, we were informed by a member of staff that we would have to vacate our table because it was reserved for other customers from 2PM. We were informed that we could move to the bar (with our 1 year old son who was with us). The bar being dark and smokey. Hardly a suitable environment for a small toddler!!! In addition to this, young children are not allowed in the bar areas of pubs (by law)... All in all, disappointing. WinniethePooh2006 - 26 Mar 2006 21:40 |
