Asked a Traffic Warden to recommend a dog friendly pub on my first visit to the town. He sent me here. Standard family pub, offering good food and good service. Couple of pints of Tribute went down well.

Refurbished since my last visit. Busy place. A st austell brewery place serving tribute and proper job ipa. Warm and friendly place. I canlt comment on the food but a good attention to detail on all other stuff i can't think its too bad. Most importantly it serves berry rattler on draught. Heaven.

Bad food, though the drink was ok. Not much different to a Weatherspoons pub to be honest. No character or atmosphere at all.

Popped in after for some food before the train back to Penzance, went in on the strength of the St Austell brand name and availability of colitis-friendly food offerings for Mrs Quinno.

The inside of the place is pretty big and bright and has a conservatory straight out of the Everest catalogue attached to the side. The whole set-up looks pretty recent.

Three beers on - Tribute and Proper Job were fine, but the HSD was vile, well off. All were sparklerised, which seems to be policy in most St Austell pubs for some reason - no idea why as their beers don't require it.

Food was good, though watch out for the volcanic rock dishes where they bring out a super-heated pumice stone and allow you to cook your own seafood/steak - one chap went for the steak and spilt a load of jalapeņo sauce over the plate which sent a billow of tear gas-style smoke up in the air and prompted a mass evacuation of the place because we were all coughing, our throats were on fire and tears were streaming out of our eyes!

All in all, not bad. Probably not worth a stop if you're familiar with the St Austell beer range but worthwhile if you fancy a bite to eat and a decent beer to accompany it - though try before you buy if possible!

I will be honest this will never be my first choice pub in truro, but if you have kids with you and need a place to eat this place is very good. Beers, Tribute, Proper Job and St Austell I.P.A. are all 3 excellant beers. Pint of all 3 were had. Menu excellant. St austell may have around 180 tide houses but the great thing is that they are all differant and encouraged to be so.
