What a shame. Used to love coming in here on my hols to the lake district. Still serves well kept Jennings ales but the entertainment now is just awfull. Saturday past, when you could have looked forward to a live band, the fare on offer was three half-jaked teenagers spitting on the pavement at the front door each trying to light a fag like it was an agility round from the Krypton Factor. 5 out of 5 for the ale. 0 out of 5 for the rest.

What have they done to downstairs?. We used to come here 3/4 times a year to see the rock bands downstairs. Not anymore. knowhere else in Bowness now so Kendals Bootleggers now the nearest. They serve jennings!

This used to be the best pub on Bowness. Not anymore. It was dreadful last time we went in (May 2009).
The pub was full of about a dozen kids doing Karaoke an full volume. You couldn't escape it.
The reason I say it used to be the best pub in Bowness is because it used to be a great little locals pub serving Jennings beers. Downstairs they used to have quality live bands with a late licence.
The old regime was very good, kept a good pint, was knowledgable about the bands playing and generally ran a good ship (no pun intended).
The new regime?.......well we won't go in again as long as there is Karaoke which must surely put off 99% of passing trade from going in. They've blown a great scene with the quality bands downstairs (no, disco is not the answer).
This is lazy at best, this pub is wasted hosting karaoke and not using downstairs. The potential is there to make this a great pub again. Use it or lose it. Pub's run like this are 2 a penny in any town/city and will go bust in no time.
Tragic

If you like Jennings beer, this is the place to drink it. Does not look like much of a pub, but they can turn out to be the best.

A pleasant, friendly local with well kept Jennings ale - Bitter, Cumberland and Cocker Hoop were all on when we visited.

Well worth a visit.
