This pub is famous for its live music, and the music is good.
The beer is hit and miss, and at times when there is no music (most of the time) the bar lacks atmosphere, and feels a little intimidating.

Don't go expecting a great pint, or even a passable ale. But considering other Basildon pubs, the on-stage targets mean you are less likely to be one.

Good pub if you are deaf. If not the bands will cause you to go deaf. Still at least it does have entertainment.

Basildon, the place where everyone dresses the same, this place really should be renamed to Chavydon and the Castlemayne slots into this bracket very well. Its a great place for live music if you like to listen to the same 2 bands each week, such a shame when there's so much other talent out there, why don't they try bands like Scam69, Fabulous Feedback Band, Undercover, the Heaters and Charlie's Aunt. Maybe its the goldfish mentality of Basildon but if that's your bag this is the pub and its always crowded.
PS: Basildon isnt in London so somebody is off the map there!

This place rocks ! Nocks many other Bas pubs for six. Not a difficult proposition I admit. Well worth looking in. Disappointment unlikely. Please mention Muffin when you go there. Bound to raise a smile at the bar !
