| We went there to celebrate our son's 50th birthday, on a Friday. we were hugely disappointed by the whole experience. We were not met on arrival, we had to ask if they were ready for us to be seated, we then waited 15 mins then asked for a menu, we then waited 1 hour for our mains, which after 45mins we asked how long they would be, and were told they were the next ones out, we then sat and watched 6 other meals being brought out! The meals were ok, but only 2 of my guests were asked if they wanted veg or salad so the rest of us had none. We were a party of 9. Before ordering the dessert we asked if they would be long, we were told not, but they were and the sticky toffee puddings were barely luke warm. Overall a dreadful experience on what should have been a celebration. | Lovely decor, well written and thought of menu and on my first visit it was lovely and i had no problems, couldnt have faulted it. Returned on sunday and even though staff were polite, the atmosphere was lovely and decor was still nice the food wasnt the same quality. Our food took literally minutes tobe delivered so i had barely had one bite into the bread and oils My roast lamb was fatty, i couldnt cut my potatoes, veg was basically raw, no one checked back to see if we were okay and i couldnt get anyonesattention for another drink as staff seemed panicked and running around and the desert we had was pretty pricey!! | I visited this pub with my mother for lunch on Sunday and have to say it has been decorated beautifully. Our table wasn't quite ready so we sat in the lounge (lovely rug on the floor) and had a drink. There were a lot of staff on duty and though they were friendly if I had any criticism they didn't really go that extra mile for us and we did feel a little rushed. The food was pleasant but a slight disappointment considering the decor. We were surprised we had to pay for bread with our soup and the desserts were quite pricey. AlisonWall - 9 Nov 2010 13:00 |
| I visited recently, just happened to be passing and it looked a nice village pub. Not until I saw the familiar menu did I realise that it was the M & B village "upmarket" stuff. On the good side it was reasonably well appointed, albeit exceptionally gloomy with the massive extensions. The staff were amiable and keen (but see later). On the downside. I found the food to be ridiculously overpriced ordinary stuff. The menu is very pretentious. If you want salad you will not find it. You have to look for “Leaves”! The cask ale at £3.15 is London priced in a Bedfordshire village pub. Nice trick if you can do it. The amiable staff seemed desperate for tips. I think that M & B should pay enough so that this is less blatant. My tip to M & B is to see if they can provide better value? All in all an expensive and poor place, best avoided. | We have been twice since the change of ownership, the first saturday it opened when we had a reasonable meal with lovely Ambiance, not cheap but I've had worse and paid more, so overall not a bad experience, although at the time it was clear that the staff were new, eager to please but not knowing a lot. The second time was in November when on the basis of the first time we thought perhaps it would be better, what a disaster! same lovely Ambiance but the music was too loud. The menu choice was abysmal all fancy stuff and very pretentious, and the food wasn't very good at all, staff still seemed a bit confused, and I was very upset that it had cost my daughter over a £100 for a rubbish meal, when I had chosen the venue. I went on line and filled out the customer satisfaction questionnaire and didn't pull my punches, I didn't expect, nor did I receive any communication regarding my complaint, it's obviously only there to look good. Until there is a change from a less pretentious menu to something that also has a choice of plainer fare, and the food itself improves, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. the rating I gave only takes into consideration the setting, not the food which would have been one. fay66 - 27 Feb 2010 02:29 |
