I agree with the previous posting about lack of atmosphere - coincidentally, I was in the pub on that very afternoon before the rugby started. The place seems to be a Thai Restaurant in a pub ( as opposed to a pub with a Thai Food restaurant attached if you see what I mean ). On the early Saturday afternoon that I was there, food was dominating and I seemed to be the only pub type customer there. It's a very attractive building - both externally and internally - but in its current incarnation I won't be rushing back JohnBonser - 12 Mar 2008 13:17
its been a while since id been here, and after checking out the reviews on this site before i went i was slightly disappointed to read that the irish landlord had gone. after id checked into the hotel, i walked along to the blacksmiths and checked it out for myself. i was in there saturday afternoon, the scotland v england rugby match was on and there was 5 people in the bar. the barmaid was friendly enough and the pint of london pride was ok and myself and my husband ordered some sandwiches which were very nice. however the bar just had no atmosphere - the previous times id been there it had been bouncing and id had a fabulous time, but this time it felt like i was sitting in a distant aunts lounge with no-one saying anything! id recommend the food here, but if you like a pub with atmosphere id recommend you visit the clipper inn 50 yards along the road instead. thesloaneranger - 10 Mar 2008 22:19
I like this place - I'm a regular at the Hilton next door for many years and this pub is my London-local. I've seen it progress well during the past few years from its old management to the current management. The service by-and-large is premium to anything else in the area, with excellent food and a fine pint of Pride. The Irish landlord has proven to be most flexable when our team at work wanted a special arrangement for the Rugby a few months ago (there were about ten of us, short notice but he managed to sort us our own TV (honest!) in a private area at the back, with a heater and enough comfort for a good feed of food, wine and beer). Things have changed slightly for the worst and I'm hoping its a temporary thing as I noticed the Irish landlord hasn't been about (holidays maybe?). A charming girl who introduced herself as "Twa" took my order and brought me the pint of Pride I'd spent half the day traveling and thinking about. A different girl served me my food - I was hungry and the food a little on the warmish side - I commented on this and had expected an offer to reheat but was instead served a cooler response of "sorry, we're busy!". I've probably got a tad too comfortable in this place because the service is typically premium hence my surprise to get a cold shoulder over something so simple. I was tired, hungry and thirsty and had not expected this. It took the shine from my pint. "Twa" gets full marks however for noticing my disappointment - Like the previous Thai girls of months ago ("Tulip" and "On" come to mind), she smiled and offered to get my food re-heated and offered an apology. Again - this is a fine place, like a wine, its maturing beautifully but on that evening I was left feeling a bit sour. I'd consider a takeaway if it were not that I'd miss out on a beautiful pint of Pride! nutty.bolts - 27 Nov 2007 16:37
Great pub - though can get very noisy on Friday nights. I do not smoke but the smoking solution here is laughable with people huddled under leaky beer umbrella!!! applecrumble - 27 Nov 2007 11:00
Excellent Thai food, well kept Pride, friendly staff. Highly recommended. biscuitman1978 - 4 Nov 2007 14:42
