Lovely surprise to go in on a cold, late, January afternoon. We sat on one of the sofas and watched life going on. Noticed what looked like one bloke trading some fish for his evening's drinking. That's the way the local works! Doom Bar as good as in Cornwall. Forget the Alma and Ship - go here. mackerel - 20 Feb 2010 11:50
London Pride and Doom Bar on handpump. The Doom Bar I had wasn’t particularly good, although just about drinkable, and at £3 a pint the going rate for the London suburbs I suppose. London Pride was the other real ale on. The floor was either black lacquered or had a black floor covering; there were three or four wooden tables with wooden chairs, and one settle adorned with cushions, and two sofas with a table between them. There was a TV showing the footy results, but on the plus side there was no one-armed bandit or games machine. The service was friendly enough. Obviously it’s a small one-room pub. It’s another “OK” pub, without, in my opinion, being anything special. RexRattus - 14 Dec 2009 14:25
I agree with London_Calling. It's one of my locals to which I always return. It's a welcome break from The Alma and The Ship ( 2 pubs which i like a lot) when they get a bit too much, i.e. too busy, too braying. Good atmosphere, friendly crowd and staff. It's good for rugby too if that's your bag. The ale changes relatively frequently- Landlord is always good and often on, although sometimes GK IPA's the only choice and I try to boycott them. My only concern is that, as mentioned below, it might unnecessarily be going down a balearic-beats slightly too-cool-for-school route. I hope not because, as it stands, it's a great boozer. jpm - 2 Apr 2009 13:40
I like it, I like it alot. Decent boozer. Nice chat with the barman, decent pint, good atmosphere. Sport on the box when it's on, sport in the corner (Darts) when it's not too busy. Landlord on tap (delicious), and a good selection of nuts and crisps. One comment - sort out the baleric beats I sometimes hear in this place (normally early doors). Not needed. Giving it an 8/10. Thumbs Up, London Calling. London_Calling - 11 Feb 2009 17:33
I found the staff and the other punters in here to be very friendly and I really enjoyed my stay. The Landlord was on good form and Greene King IPA was also available alongside San Miguel and some standard lagers. There are plenty of TVs for the watching of all things sport and there is also a dartboard as you walk through the entrance. I saw some signs for a beer garden out the back, but it was far to cold to entertain the idea of venturing outside. The pub is quite small and can get packed out, but I would still gladly go back here again for a few jars. Strongers - 10 Feb 2009 06:42
