Ex-pub. Now 'La Tasca', a chain tapas restaurant.

Now a branch of the "La Tasca" tapas chain - some might say an improvement?

Before 1997 this was the much loved Buffalo, before a corporate decision was made to convert it beyond recognition to a Hogshead. To be fair, the original incarnation was a very attractive and warm bar, before subsequent alterations and "improvements" has left a pretty characterless place. Oh, and the real ales aren't very nice either.

its alright during the summer when the students have gone, some cheap beer offers during the afternoon, not bad bar staff, but havent been in when its busy . Food usual bland chain affair, not the pubs fault iam sure.if youre are a visitor try it one summers afternoon

Somewhere between the two comments below, is how I feel. Yes this is a chain pub in the most banal sense, not original, same furniture as you would expect, and same drinks and food. Yes the music can be turned up too loud, often by the staff who then chat about the music rather than serving. However, there is usually 3+ ales on (pretty well-kept), and they serve food and drink that is reasonably priced. Certainly not for all, and never on a weekend night!!
