Agreed. This is a sound Lakeland Pub with good beer and adequate food offering in a beautiful spot away from the tourist traps. Pleasant to sit outside, even under the extended roof when raining. Take a walk from here to "Slaters Bridge"-about 15 minutes. Worth seeing. Landlords keen that walkers cars do not fill the car park though and other parking is limited pheon - 14 Jan 2012 15:58
Worth a detour on a blustery day in the Lakes, roaring fire and a good pint of Conniston Old man, dogs allowed in public bar ian241 - 22 May 2011 18:41
A nice place to stop and rest your weary legs after a hard day's walk with a lovely little area to sit outside and have a pint on a beautiful late winter/early spring day. Inside seems a bit cold and clinical for me. I love a Lakeland pub to be warm and inviting, but this place has had a bit too contemporary a makeover and has lost that feel. Having said this though, we called in on both days of our recent jaunt and found the staff to be friendly and the beer to be very good. Will definitely be back and might try the food next time too. littledrummerboy - 14 Mar 2011 10:08
Wonderful location, good beer, food fine. Service ... total rubbish. Get staff who know how to pull a pint and you'll sell more of it. Gerremin - 4 Jan 2011 15:56
Great place to stopover with nice comfortable rooms. Food is good and the bar does lack a bit of character but is just fine after a long walk on a chilly evening. 3 ales on... Cumberland, wainrights and a coniston ale. wrinkley - 19 Oct 2010 13:38
