Friendly knowledgable bar manager when I visited, decent pint of George Wright "Drunken Duck" quaffed, 7/10 fat_beer_badger - 6 Sep 2012 16:18
Can't see many recent comments. Staff are fine despite comments - I don't eat there so won't comment on that one. Latest info - discounts for CAMRA members no longer available as of today. The manager is 'using his discretion' not to take them other than the 50p off vouchers. It never was much, but if he's using his discretion not to welcome there, I'll use mine not to buy that extra pint. His choice. N neilhowfen - 7 Oct 2011 20:59
I went to this pub recently on a mid week evening when it was quietish. I was looking forward to a pint of cask bitter & I was expecting a good choice. To my 'bitter' disappointment out of 12 hand pumps, 6 had signs on stating '' ??? bitter - coming soon'', 3 had the signs turned away from the customer because the barrel was empty, leaving only 3 bitters on sale. There was a choice of Abbott Ale & 2 straw coloured bitters which are not really to my taste. There is absloutely no atmosphere in this pub, it just isn't like a proper pub. The staff were a mixed bunch, 2 friendly, 1 ok & 1 miserable person with no sense of humour whatsoever. I won't be rushing back to the Robert Shaw. Bowton_Lad - 20 Mar 2010 23:26
It has improved a lot recently. Good beer at a fair price and the new staff are a big improvement on the old lot. eio - 8 Dec 2008 21:22
Have to agree with all the comments above, no other wetherspoons pub I have been in have stroppy staff like they do at Westhoughton they don't even look round the bar to see who is next to be served and even when the pub/Beer factory is quiet it can still be hard to get served, the Customer can be viewed as a nuisance who interrupts the staffs conversations. The Beer: I guess real ales especially the out of date ones wetherspoons serves can be a bit temperamental but when on form Blonde witch, Abbots Ale, and Pendle witch are beautiful and cheap. Summery Staff have serious attitude problems the beer can be nice when on form. Panzer - 18 Jun 2008 18:38
