found ok for a pint of bishop finger. went in the dining part first went back into the street and a door down the street found the bar service was quick and it looked like it has always been a pub. one of the better spoons i have been in and would go again

Dirty, dingy and depressing. Cheap prices don't make up for poor drink and food. Avoid at all costs.

this Wetherspoons chain pub is fairly typical of the breed. Reheated-in-a-microwave meals that are more fuel than food and a somewhat lackluster approach to cleaning tend to make a visit here to be somewhat less rewarding than watching emulsion dry. However the real ales are well-kept meaning that you can hide behind your beer goggles and forget about the lack of decor and have fun instead. Friday nights tend to be rowdy but entertaining. The smoking ban has not helped as there is now nothing to mask the natural odour of mildew that seems to hang about the place. A refueling stop rather than a destination of choice, perhaps.

Not obviously a Wetherspoons from the outside, and inside it appears to be a traditional inn rather than a modern conversion. The barmaid was friendly enough, and a good-natured crowd of locals were engaged in some lengthy banter near - but not blocking - the bar. The Bath Ales Barnstormer was in good condition (and cheap), and I would agree with those that might suggest it is a better bet than the White Horse across the road.

Good range of drinks and quite a big pub. More old fashioned than the White Horse over the road.
