The place appears really to be more of a bistro than a pub -- not exactly uncommon these days. The barmaid ... well, I wouldn't have employed her, let's put it that way. The place really wasn't all that friendly, it has a cold, unwelcoming, clinical feel about it in spite of the nice coal fire. The beer was okay though dull. The regulars seemed to be drinking lager rather than beer -- that tells you a bit either about the regulars, or the beer, or both! With other good pubs not far away I won't be rushing back.

I would totally recommend this pub. We had a fantastic lunch here after a walk with friends. All the food was tasty and of the highest standard. The staff were excellent, efficient and attentive. And the price was great - all in all a wonderful end to a wonderful day.

Went to a function there last night - the ambience was great, the buffet was one of the best I have ever had, my taste-buds didn't know what had hit them - I actually asked the staff about various items on the buffet table and they explained what each item was, then I spoke to the French chef who had been given a free rein to do the buffet of his choice and boy did he excel!

I am a smoker and the smoking outside area was lovely and had heating lamps.

Wish we did not live an hour away as we would go there more often, as I would love to try their restaurant as I have heard the meals are also excellent.

Would I go back? Definitely YES!

Well, some interior decorator has triumphantly inserted the Compton Swan in her portfolio and one is tempted to tell her where to put the entire project. Drab, posey and pretentious, it's not a pub, it's not a restaurant and it's not a pleasure to go there. Greene King may not be the best but chilling it is killing it, and hiding the menu doesn't sell food.

It's OK - more like a trendy city pub than a village local now. Not a pub to go to for a pint and packet of p.scratchins...None of the common lagers on draft (ie Fosters, Carling, Carlsburg, Stella). Good smoking area. Could do with relaxing the opening hours.
