Visited about a while back, couldn't find it on BITE then, I didn't know it had reopened under a this new name! Had lunch, which was a massive battered fish with excellent chips and peas, lovely! Was driving so no alcohol, but the fresh orange and lemonade I had was fine! I remember it well! My daughter,a student, liked it as well. Although the food was fine and to be recommended, it DID seem a bit lacking in atmosphere, that may change in the eveving tho!

Closed down last year. Now the Eye on the Tyne!

Reviews so far sum up this place pretty well. Despite being within a pea roll of the Quayside it always feels underpopulated and apart from the pool table has precious little to write home about. Nothing, I mean. The sort of place that leaves a group of previously happy friends staring into their pints and contemplating their debt. But this is all nothing as compared to the adjacent Wig and Pen. What a strange, lifeless place that is. I have to assume that someone was once shot dead in here and it is trying (failing) to shake off its reputation as a pub of death.

It has a pool table and odd painting of Shearer on the wall. Spend an hour or so in there watching the footy results come in but doubt I'll ever go back. Beer is ok... but all in all quite bland

The rebuild is a bit insensitive, but the building is a genuine relic of Tynesides commercial past. Like many pubs, the atmosphere is dependent on who is in on a particular evening.
