| After an energetic walk from Haslemere via Black Down we arrived rather circuituously at the Red Lion. A pretty traditional pub inside and out with three Fullers beers and Adnams bitter available. Why Fullers have a tied house out here I cannot say, but it's still open and seemingly thriving. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and there was a steady trade. The food was excellent, with the Steak and Kidney Pudding a magnificent thing, towering over the plate like the Devil's Tower in Close Encounters. Reasonably priced too. Would happily re-visit if in the area again ramblethenlunch - 20 Sep 2011 12:47 |
| Great pub and gone from strength to strength. polite and friendly landlord-lady and staff lovely atmosphere, nice rear garden and the food is varied and excellent value. The beers are quite good but would prefer to see a few more varieiets on tap real ale and lager than exist at the moment. Dog friendly too , so one of our favourite places on a quiet village green. | Cracking pub...well kept beer..though all are Fullers except one guest ale which changes regularly...landlord knows his beer and as such it's kept well.. food is good too and varied.. Dogs welcome and children aren't allowed in the main bar area...which is a good thing IMO... Pleasant back garden and seating out the front too. gets busy on Sundays, especially is weather's good...but don't let that put you off.. Also open all day throughout the week, which is unusual for the area... d.franks - 23 Apr 2011 11:34 |
| If you want a view of traditional English landscape and the typical village scene, then this is the place to head. The seats out front add that idyllic feel to the taste of good ale. The staff are very friendly and the landlord is a CAMRA member happy to chat about beer. It's all Fullers with one guest, Elsie Mo, when I was there. All served in good condition. Haven't tried the food yet, but it's often busy with people eating even weekdays. This is a much friendlier establishment with properly kept beer, when compared to the Kings Head on the Midhurst Road. Don't go there when you could have so much more in the Lion. | Large group of us went for a walk from the pub on Sunday and returned 3 hours later for lunch. Very friendly, excellent London Pride, and had just put on Bengal(?) Lancer, an IPA that friends assured me was very good. Good range of tasty, well priced food. A jobsworth gave us a hard time about parking in the 'Private' (but no obvious signs) adjacent village hall car park - but relented when we said we were eating in the pub later - landlady pays a nominal rent for the privilege.
