Superb location overlooking Newbury lock and St Nick's church, with plenty of seating outside and on the roof. Beer is always good but pricey and plenty to choose from, but service can be slow, and food is at best ok.

Don't understand the negative reviews. Pub is average but that means it's better than most in Newbury. Beer well kept (typical Fuller's pub in this respect), food OK, staff OK, nice location. Can get busy.

Absolutely disgusted by the way we were told as soon as we walked in on a very cold saturday lunch time to go and sit outside as we had a toddler with us!! Bearing in mind this is a pub located on the high street where all the shops are so families must go there a lot. And then even more disgusted when on my way out I realised there were at least 4 dogs in the pub, one of them only a foot away from the bar looking quite threatening. Unbelievable!

Three of us ate there last night....menu states pub stops serving food at 9PM - fair do's - got our order in at ten to - shouldn't have bothered! Rude disinterested barman - telling us we were too late nevertheless he did take the order - grudgingly! Food arrived - all we can say was rushed/tasteless - actually quite vile! You live and learn - wouldn't visit again! Such a shame as the actual pub is great - minus the unfriendly staff and unedible food!!

Having been to the pub twice, there will never be a third time!!
The beer is mediocre, BUT the food has been disgusting on both occasions!

As we taken there by elderly relatives as a "treat" on both occasions,so I did not complain, also any estabilsment that is prepared to serve food this bad, isn't worth complaing to !

We were a group of six, and all chose different items from the menu.
So this wasn't a case of one particular item being bad.
