Food is terrible. You can tell its run by- euck- Gardener and Merchant. School dinners again, yummmmm. Plug bar is better but unfortunately more smoky at the moment. Not actually expensive, especially the offers but not cheap enough for a Uni. Get on the orange bus!! lg06111985 - 4 Sep 2006 23:44
It is an OK pub, a fair balcony area with views over the campus mike2004 - 18 Sep 2005 16:19
tomandy2 you are correct in that the place is a rip off. Back in the mid 90's, this place was quite spartan in decor and run by the University, who employed staff who clearly enjoyed serving students, plus the prices were reasonable. There was even a decent jukebox. Perfect place for a few quiet beers and a laugh. Sadly, then the powers that be gave a contract to Gardner Merchant caterers to run it. Not sure if they are still in charge now, but it is still run by caterers. This meant they were running it for a profit, so they decided to style it like a city pub and offer prices to match. Blame David VanDerlinden, the dodgy ex-VC of the University (And the highest paid). He sold it off to pay for all the University sports facilities! TheGP - 14 Jun 2005 13:09
The only thing that redeems this pub is the fact that it sells beer. Unfortunately the beer is normally flat and warm. The staff dont really know what they're doing. Desperately in need of a good manager, and some serious price cuts (it is on a uni campus after all!). £1.60 for a pint of warm coke from a multi-pack bottle. You're having a laugh tomandy2 - 2 Jun 2005 11:31
Eurgh. They have a desire to play intensly loud music at all hours, and as for the decor...it's trying to be a bit clubby but failing. Student or otherwise, go to town bs3jdb - 2 Feb 2005 08:54
