Seems to be getting the balance about spot-on. Always busy, great food and beer and will always be popular on summer days... Tried a very unusual beer the other day, Everards March 2015 special "Blue Boar" (4.0% ABV) which has a strong Honey taste and uses Boadicea, Saaz hops. Good to see this pub still popular as was the case in Michael's days...

Now had a total refit by Everards and is unrecognisable inside... Still has great beers (but a bit pricier) and with this setting it will always be popular. Some good touches like leaving the old bar (roadside) pretty much the same, extending the garden and creating a nice outside eating area. Food is good, but portions on the small side. Will miss those old models of ships and the "U bend" gents toilet entrance...!

Needs to keep it's eye on the ball now... The landlord of many years Michael has retired and the new owners havent quite got it right yet. Still a great range of beers and (obviously) fantastic setting, but food is more expensive and service patchy. Might just be me, but I'm sure the Original is not quite as good...

I don't know a pub that keeps Original as well as this... Whilst Everards is obviously a large player (especially in these days of micro-breweries), I would put Original in my top 5 beers of all time. Don't know why they had to drop the "Old" though...

Great canalside pub. Everards Brewery ales (Original is always kept nicely), as well as a special (York Brewery "Terrier") on my last vist. Reasonably simple "pub grub" as well. Gets really busy summer evenings...
