Meh. Cold beer, cold atmosphere. Beer available in thirds though, which is nice if you want to work your way through the Everards range. jjsint - 1 Sep 2011 15:18
Great Eveards pub with loads of choices for beer and lager nicely renovated few years ago draws a decent class of drinker as its in an area where lots of professionals work mainly lawers rxcbs01 - 1 Jul 2011 15:55
A deli first and foremost (the smell of pimentos when you walk in makes that clear), this is certainly worth dropping in after alonger session at the Criterion for a well-kept (and well-priced) Everards'. The spoof newspaper headline posters are a bit out of place, but that's probably the idea. getsit - 27 Mar 2011 14:26
This place is good! Friday saw it packed out with a mix of students and young people. Wednesday was much quieter. They carry the core of four Everards ales. Broadside was off on the Friday and there were no other guests, but they had the Broadside and Titanic White Star on good form on the Wednesday. A lot larger than it looks from the outside, this place has a comprehensive beer garden and intimate nooks and crannies and seating booths which I like. Pints are priced around £3, which is a little expensive for Leicester, but this place is clearly attracting a more discerning clientèle, willing to pay a little more. dynamiteninja - 19 Feb 2011 17:33
The old Victorian brick exterior hides what is an ultra modern, bright clean interior more aligned to a cocktail bar than a pub. Now I can’t work out from the previous reviews if this place has been recently refurb, but it certainly looked like it, with comfortable big spongey sofa’s, lots of abstract art on the walls and modern lighting, and a wooden pristine wooden floor that looked like it hadn’t had a drop of drink spilt on it yet. Lots of shiney lager taps but also a couple of hand pumps supporting GK Abbott and Yorkshire terrier from the York brewery. Now I’m sure this place is or will be very popular with the 20 - 30 somethings, but I prefer my pubs with a bit more character than an uber modern bar more in the style of an Ikea showroom. And as excellent as our pints of Terrier were, I didn’t feel comfortable and thought I should have been drinking a large pinot grigio or something with an umbrella and a sparkler. Fortunately the Criterion is a short walk down the road and I was much more comfortable here and I’ll leave The Rutland and Derby to you young trendy things… Gann - 28 Nov 2009 13:09
