The exterior seems to have had a bit of work done. Samuel Johnson quote, a menu, and it tells you what guest ale is on without having to go in! dynamiteninja - 21 Sep 2010 13:16
DISREGARD THE COMMENT BELOW, IT HAS BEEN POSTED BY THE MANAGEMENT IN A PATHETIC ATTEMPT AT DAMAGE LIMITATION. ANY REAL ALE DRINKER WORTH THEIR SALT IN LEICESTER WILL BE FOUND IN THE PUB, THE CRITERION OR THE SWAN & RUSHES. All_Hail_The_Ale - 23 Jul 2010 08:40
I have used this pub over the last few weeks as I'm working in Leicester. I worked here the same time last year, and I must say..... What a change!! The pub looks cleaner and the new paint job and seat coverings look good and have really given some life back to the pub. The main thing was the beer!! As a real ale drinker it was great to see such clean and tasty ale. A real good selection and the "Forty Bob" is a real steal at £2.00!!! Very morish!! Ate at the pub a couple of times too and the food was good. Nice to see the pool table too, and a nice warm welcome from the staff. Nice to see a few pubs are still sticking to traditional values!! I would highly recomend a visit!! Max4278 - 27 Jan 2010 01:44
I booked this venue for a works Christmas do. I gave them 3 weeks notice of our attendance, and at their request, 1 weeks notice of the food order. This was taken from their bar menu as the landlord advised us that the Christmas menu was not very good. At no point did he say that the pub would not be able to cope with such a large number. We arrived in the pub at 1330 as arranged. At 1400 I asked if the food was ready to be served. We took our place in the 'restaurant' and 20 mins later the starters started to arrive. Whilst not of the best quality, they were at least all served. Then the real delay began. At 1530 the first of just 6 main courses were served. The curry that was served was still frozen in the middle whilst other meals were merely cold. At this point I complained to the landlord who refused to reimburse the paid paid to him at the start of the meal. He has since claimed that he told me they would be unable to cope and therefore it was my fault for chosing the bar menu and chosing to use his venue! Good beer, bad food, appalling management - very nice waiter! SB1972 - 7 Jan 2010 10:02
I have no real comments on the drinks which were served but the food is a big NO.... My work place had booked for our Christmas Party (approx figure of 25), we pre-ordered our food requirements to allow the pub to get the food in and to have it ready to be served for 1.30pm.... On arrival at the pub we were asked to pay for our food (which raised suspision and in hind sight we should have said no and left there and then). The first course started to arrive at approx 2.15pm and apart from the delay there was no real complaints. After around 20mins of the last person to finish this course the plates were collected and then we waited.... and waited.... and waited. Eventually the main course started to be served, after around half a dozen or so plates being served, the food started to be sent back (being cold, not being cooked etc...). At this stage it was decided enough was enough, and we approached the management to ask for our money back. Needless to say, this was refused and after an exchange of words the group left. If the poor service was down to the amount of numbers, then the pub should not have taken the order in the first place. My only advice DON'T GO TO THE BARLEY MOW FOR GROUP BOOKINGS. mjh6488 - 7 Jan 2010 09:20
