As with some of the better pubs, this is closed on Saturday afternoons. Shame, as I now have to come back all the way from Croydon to sample it. filf - 31 Oct 2011 01:13
Youngs Ordinary, Bombardier and Tribute (£3.30). Best pint of Tribute I have had for ages, tasted lovely. Small snug as you walk in, bar is around the corner. Decent beer garden. Nice enough. GuideDogSaint - 11 May 2011 17:32
Have just come home from a return visit to the William IV. This time my wife and I had a wonderful Sunday lunch - £8-95 for two lovely dishes. The first was Roast Beef with roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, cabbage, carrots and cauliflower along with a large Yorkshire puddings. I was almost full after this course, but still managed to find space for the Apple and Cinamon Crumble which had been made by the landlord. All in all I cannot fault the food or the service at this establishment. I go there looking for comfort food, and friendly service. Both of which I get in abundance. paul743 - 20 Mar 2011 16:17
We've always been on a Saturday night (twice). We've eaten in the restaurant and both times the 4 of us have been the only ones there! Funny restaurant, you have to go out the bar, semi outside and back in another door at the back of the pub. The food is 'ok' nothing stunning. The chef was 'hanging on' for us to order the desert at 9pm. The beer was good though! alboy - 1 Mar 2011 20:26
While I cannot fault the beer - a choice of three real ales with the two I tried, Young's 'ordinary' (why do we call it that?) and Tribute both being excellent, the 'pub grub' was probably, no actually was, the worst I have ever experienced! Having ordered a 'siloin steak' medium rare, I was presented a thin slice of pink meat, almost completely without colour and certainly not sealed, which was sent back purely on its unappetising appearance. Its replacement, almost equally unattractive in appearance, appeared with an explanation form the cook - I cannot use the word chef - that It was the best that she could do! It was awful and after trying a few pieces I wrapped it in a napkin and brought it home for my dog! The steak was, at best, a piece of minute steak, never an £11.00 sirloin, and was just inedible having whatever little life it ever had being completely cooked out of it! I just cannot stress how much you should avoid the food in this travesty of a food pub - just stick with the beer and eat in the Red Lion! geoffrush - 26 Feb 2011 17:37
