Attended this local venue early evening on Thursday 3rd June, which for the record was a hot day.

Within minutes was stunned by news that there was no white wine or rose. They had run out and were tied to a brewery - awaiting delivery. This despite the fact the website publicises the existence of a well stocked wine cellar.

Ordered 3 meals - more news - they had run out of Steak and Ale Pie, Kings Pie and Tuna Steak.

Was about to walk out but ordered Scampi and Rack of Ribs. The scampi was small in portion and the ribs served up as a mess on a plate.

The presence of polite, apologetic staff and 'Late Red' on tap did nothing to appease me or my family.

A poor experience!

I sat by their fire whilst enjoying a pint of the Late Red.
There was a telly for those who feel the need to shout at sport whilst having a pint, and whilst the telly was tucked away round the corner, after a few minutes the noise of the three telly-watching thugs rather spoiled the ambience for the two dozen people who chose to be away from the telly.

Without the sport it would have scored a lot higher. As it is, I can't in all honesty go over 6/10. Average.

I was impressed. They've made a few changes over the years, but the general feel of the place is still much the same as it was 30 years ago - a nice traditional low-beamed village local. The only addition I'm not wild about is the obligatory large screen TV, but even that can be almost completely ignored if you sit in the right place.
Shepherd Neame beer's not my favourite, but it was in excellent condition. They had a guest on, too - from Elgood's - which is pleasing to see in a Sheps pub. Unfortunately i noticed it too late to try it.
Well worth another visit.

A nice pub with good beer.

Historic pub at the top of the hill, near the church. Quite dark, low beamed cealing, but good Shepherd Neame beer.
