Stayed in the hotel last weekend (rooms surprisingly posh) and had a great night out in the bar with rugby fans from the local Barrow club (ground right next door) and Swinton. Really good live music act (singer/guitarist playing to a backing track) plus friendly locals & staff made the night thoroughly enjoyable and memorable. Oh, four real ales served in good condition too.

Massively improved boozer, best beer range and quality in town by a mile! Beware the cider, it makes you fall over!

Proper free-house run by real people rather than some chain. Good beer. Can be smoky. Rubbish "turns" on at the weekend. Decor designed by David Blunkett. Best proper pub in Barrow.

I was drinking in this pub when I was a lad and I can say that since June and Dave took over some years ago this pub has gone from a right s***hole where a session on their draft would leave you doing the bombay two step, to a very nice local pub that caters for a varied clientele. True Ashley can be a bit grumpy some times but the staff have always been friendly and helpful when I've called in. The food always looks good and the choice of beers on draft and in bottles leaves other Barrow pubs standing. Looking for a nice session? give "The Brose" a go.
