I have visited this pub a couple of times lately, May 2011, I have found it to be run by an excellent manager, with friendly, polite and knowledgable staff. The Youngs beer was as good as I have tasted and I used to keep Youngs myself in my pub days, so I know what I'm talking about. I haven't tried the food yet, but hear the kitchen's being re-fitted and the new menu comes into action next week.. I expect it will be good, the manager seems very keen on high standards. It's been a pleasure to visit, with everything clean and tidy. There are some negative comments here from past incarnations, but this is now an excellent pub. I also heard other exciting rumours.. but am sworn to secrecy... steve_broe - 21 May 2011 22:37
Iv been having Christmas diner. Nice food and nice bar staff. Tasty starters and mains, but mains bit too late, but they were busy I think. Still love this pub, because of nice FOH staff and great food. winter21 - 11 Dec 2010 02:39
Not a bad pub in the shopping centre, I often drink here with the wife as its clean, large, and trouble free, Friendly manager, good food, and great service, its good see someone take pride in there job, I would reccommend this pub to anybody shopping in the area,. As for the food, the Sunday Roasts are the best, as the menu says, traditionaly home cooked food, and yes they are. be carful of the blond barmaid during the day, she is'nt very polite, otherwise nice pub oldman..onthetown - 4 Nov 2010 21:01
One of the better pubs in the area, have been drinking in this pub for many years, and has just come under new management, good manager, good beer, and great staff, as for the food, (Fantastic), just what this pub needs, sombody who knows what they are doing, and well fairly cheap, I like the idea of the manager charging £3 per drink through-out any football on sky, Good atmosphere, clean, and wonderful staff, lets hope it stays that way mysterydrinker01 - 21 Oct 2010 20:36
Purpose built ( 1974 ) Youngs pub in the shopping precinct close to Catford Broadway and Lewisham Town Hall. It's comfortably furnished in a traditional style with carpets throughout and old pictures of the area on the walls. The low ceilings and absence of any windows ( apart from at the entrance ) help with a cosy and welcoming ambience, albeit with a rather cavernous feel due to its size. Reflecting the area, both the beer and food are relatively cheap, Youngs Ordinary being £ 2.45p and foodwise, sausage, mash, peas, onions and gravy being £ 2.95p. The pub is in the 2009 Good Beer Guide and the Youngs Ordinary was basically as good as it gets on my recent Saturday lunchtime visit. I must confess to not knowing the pubs of this area very well at all, but I would be surprised if this was not one of the better ones. JohnBonser - 21 Apr 2009 12:48
