Purpose built ( 1974 ) Youngs pub in the shopping precinct close to Catford Broadway and Lewisham Town Hall. It's comfortably furnished in a traditional style with carpets throughout and old pictures of the area on the walls. The low ceilings and absence of any windows ( apart from at the entrance ) help with a cosy and welcoming ambience, albeit with a rather cavernous feel due to its size. Reflecting the area, both the beer and food are relatively cheap, Youngs Ordinary being £ 2.45p and foodwise, sausage, mash, peas, onions and gravy being £ 2.95p. The pub is in the 2009 Good Beer Guide and the Youngs Ordinary was basically as good as it gets on my recent Saturday lunchtime visit. I must confess to not knowing the pubs of this area very well at all, but I would be surprised if this was not one of the better ones. JohnBonser - 21 Apr 2009 12:48
I always like a pint in The Ram when I come down to London. It's the best pub in Catford, even if it does limit me to Youngs bitter, which I am not a great fan of. Food is tasty and reasonable price and tables and bar are clean. Staff very friendly and seem please to see you, which is probably the case as not so many get in there since the smoking ban. Beer prices on the high side. A pint of Youngs ordinary was under £3. I cant afford too many pints so end up in The London and Rye (Spoons) after one or two. JustCallMeH - 26 Mar 2009 17:35

Trinker's review is fairly spot on. Plus, one of the main advantages the Ram has is that there is little within easy walking difference from the centre of Catford to challenge it. Catford really needs a pub which you can stop in on the way home from the station for a couple, and spend a nice Friday or Saturday evening in without fear of the usual hassle - I'd even welcome a Youngs in the more modern style and be happy to pay for it. Until then it's the Ram - pleasant bar star, eclectic mix of punters. Candid_Reviewer - 19 Feb 2009 21:17
Not sure about the previous "dim and grim" comment - on both counts. Its lighting is adequate and it certainly is not grim, the decor and furnishings are clean and in good condition, albeit perhaps in neither a contemporary or classic style. The place is just itself. It is pretty large inside and has the feel that it should be a football pub. The beers are good! And no, its not JDW prices. Trinker - 10 Aug 2008 17:47
