"Quirky" (read: irritating) landlady put me off this place last time I went in here. Frumpy northern type who'd be taller laying down, knows all the men are looking at her breasts. Suffice to say, I didn't take up her offer to join her "out back for quickeh".

A warm welcome awaits you when you visit this great country pub. One of those pubs you feel completely at ease in. The Landlord and Landlady are true professionals & have an impressive knowledge of beers and wines, and are both great conversationalists. Now owned by Shepherd Neame, all beers are kept to impressive standards, and the wines available are superb. Decor is traditional country pub, and hygeine is first class. Also dog friendly, which is an added bonus after long country walks.

Lovely big pub with a good comfy bar area that is separate from the dining area. I would definitely recommend this as a place to eat, food is very good and the portions generous, but it also works as a boozer with a massive fireplace and well kept ales (sadly all Sheps).

Lots of comments here about the landlady. I understand why she draws these comments, but personally I like a strong willed person who takes pride in their work and interest in their customers. Each to their own.

Been using this pub intermittently for years. We almost always eat, the food is not cheap but always good. The landlady is efficient (not rude), gives good advice and is always welcoming as are all the staff. Great interior, big dining area and a big open fire.
The main reason for going to the Cock Inn was the Youngs beer, (the Special was always very well kept) but as been noted elsewhere, it has changed to Shepard Neame. I believe in recent years this and a pub in Canterbury were the only Youngs pubs in Kent, now both are SN. It appears Youngs did not want to deliver to Kent after the amalgamation with Wells and the brewery move from Wandsworth to Bedford. We still go, the SN Late Red is good. I would be interested to know of any pub in central Kent that regularly has Youngs as a guest beer.
