Fantasic micro brewery / pub / restaurant. Now owned by Ossett but still brewing great ales on the premises. You tend to get 4 or 5 Riverhead Beers, a few Ossett and one guest to choose from. Upstairs restaurant has daytime & evening menus and amazing specials. Real quality food at reasonable prices. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Outdoor seating overlooks river & weir and is ideal in Summer. Only a short walk from canal and railway station. Dog friendly. LittleFamilyFish - 26 Aug 2008 12:31
My brother and I recently arranged our Dad's 60th birthday party here, and I could not have been more impressed by the professional, helpful and friendly way in which Richard, the chef, and the dining room staff made the evening such an enjoyable occasion. We started with a couple of drinks in the very pleasant downstairs bar (Butterley bitter for me!), then moved upstairs for dinner. I had eaten at a top London restaurant the previous evening, but frankly the food at the Riverhead was better (at a fraction of the price and without the pretension). A fantastic menu with a wide range of tempting dishes, simply delicious food, helpful and attentive staff, reasonably priced ... what more do you want? Somewhere to feed the ducks between courses if you have a couple of children in the party? Yes, they even have that too! I shall be back at the earliest opportunity, and hoping the fantastic rump of lamb with black pudding shepherds pie (tasting is believing) will be on the menu again. It might even be worth another 400 mile round trip! YorkshiremanInExile - 2 Jun 2008 19:23
I used to go here a few years ago and it was good but the transformation is incredible. You can now look out at everything going on by the river while drinking one of a selection of great ales. It does get very busy from Thursday to Sunday and the staff sometimes have difficulty keeping on top of it but it's definitely worth a visit. Also, if it is crowded on entry (unfortunately the bar points out towards the door which can cause a jam) ease your way down to the left where there is generally space. RussH - 26 Apr 2008 23:03
This pub has gone right downhill since Ossett took over it. The beer was always a bit unreliable, but they've took it to a whole new level. Used to be a regular, but got sick of never getting a decent pint. Fair enough, the bar was spruced up, but what about the toilets? Great if you like paddling in piss. Hopper - 6 Feb 2008 21:49
Never used to like the atmosphere when it was Riverhead and for me the beers were watery. Since Ossett bought it, moved the bar the place is airy and more spacious. Most importantly they sell Ossett and it's spot on. One of the greatest beers in England... go and get it, feed the ducks and get a wobble on. C_Urchin - 25 Jan 2008 21:14
