The Artichoke is one of a number of pubs along The Green. I was expecting a Marston's pub. But in fact, the ale choice was Wherry or Landlord. We took up residence at a table, but were told promptly that it was reserved. Almost all tables were reserved for diners. Luckily, we weren't staying around for long. This is certainly a food-dominated pub.

Eating or Drinking????
After finding a table tonight for my party that wasn't booked as most are in this really succesfull public house at 6.46pm ish, and being congratulated by the owners sister on finding an unbooked table; we consumed a few beers each and were just about th purchase another round when at approx 8.07pm ish we were informed that someone had booked our table on the internet and we had to vacate a table that we thought was ours for the night in 23mins.
Please note this is a public house that has many, many posters displayed in the pub refering to us locals as "Artifolk". Happy for us to drink sitting down unless the internet intervenes.
My heartfelt warning to local people or even more relevant, people from further afield, please book yourself a table to avoid the unbelievable series of events that I experienced.
To be happily camped at a table that wasn't booked was a rare and pleasant treat. But only an hour later to be told your table had been reserved in cyberspace whilst I was occupying it in the reakl world is baffling and amazinb.
My advice is book and eat or hope and pray that if you can find a table that isn't booked, that your evening isn't hijacked in cyberspace.
All the best.
Happy Drinking

This is a good example of a gastropub.
I didn't try the food, but it did look good. I would have eaten and stayed all evening.
However, £4 for a very average pint of fairly local beer this far from central London is the kiss of death for me.
I don't mind paying that if there is a band or some kind of entertainment, but no.
There are much better and more reasonably priced pubs in the area and in central London.
Unless you are very wealthy or looking to show off, avoid!

Excellent pub/eatery with friendly staff and good service. Food is well priced and of very good standard. Long may it continue!

A beautiful restoration of an old unloved pub! The Artichoke now stands proud on Croxley green..With children allowed until 7pm is creates the perfect mix of a family pub and a place for adults to socialise in the evening. The food is great and the service outstanding a great place for everyone..a really welcoming, friendly pub.
