user reviews of Archers, Gidea Park

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Recently took a visit to The Archers as I have just returned to the area after living away for a while. The food was a bit over priced and the atmosphere was a bit quiet, but might just be the time of year. a few nice real ales though.

What a difference, had a face lift, removed some tv's, but still shows sport but not in your face.
Weekends now has females, so no longer just a blokes only bar, good selection of lager, ale is now on tap and a decent back bar offering of spirits, shots and wines.
Also does food 7 days a week, gone are the hit and miss days of turning up and the kitchen is closed.

visited here for the 1st time over Christmas, found it rather pleasant, good selection of draught lagers, real ale supposed to be making a return with a planned miny refit. The place does food and although a bit dearer than the harvester opposite, the food was good and unlike a harvester the archers don't have loads of screaming kids

Went there during last summer and found it to be an alright pub. some loud chelsea fans by the tv but you get that in all pubs that show sport.
beer wasnt too bad price wise. only stayed for a few hours as i was heading to romford.
i would go again but it is well out of my way and i have plenty of places nearer.

Being out of town (and a listed property, i expect), the Archers has retained it's original character and spirit. A couple of my mates lived directly opposite a while back, in such a position that they could see if the pool table was free from their own living room. We used to spend every Sunday evening down there participating in, and winning a few times, the excellent DJ-run pub quiz.

But then things changed for the worse - the brewery allegedly caught the manager selling his own booze on the side and promptly sacked him. The new bloke that came in to replace him was a wally. to be frank, and, sin of sins, took away the quiz!! We subsequently boycotted the pub (not before we had a good bust-up with him) and told everyone else not to go there. Tragically, a couple of months after this, the poor bloke died of a heart attack! Alas, the pub quiz did not return. Sounds like they didn't get a better manager either.
