Overall disappointed. Visited a number of times times over last few months at various times. Its a 2 for £10 place, which just means the price of single meals are grossly overpriced. Even at a £5 its pushing it, very ordinary pub fried/microwaved food. The interior is getting ‘tired’ Its probably why the lights are turned down in the evenings (or just not working) , however this just creates a more tacky feeling. Needs brightening up. Do have cask ales, IPA and Boddies ,plus guest ales. Very young staff, possibly too young. Suffers from poster blight.

Interesting comment by wheel154, I too noticed this about clientele being sprawled about. Very strange mix, a complete contrast to the John Gilbert, no apparent dress code, flip-flops, shorts, football shirts, trackies – ok its only a few, but these things tend to get out of control. Suspect people who get turned away from the Gilbert wander down here ( they have doorstaff). Another annoyance is the fact that children can run riot, which parents and staff seem not be notice. Kids should only be in pubs with parents for meals, and be at a table. I have that gripe about a few places, not just this.

The main thing the place has is it location, its not a canalside pub as such, situated on the main road across from it. Stunning uparket area, pub has a downmarket approach. Needs sorting.

This is a great pub and my 'local', if anything is. Often much maligned as a result of history, but Cath is dragging it up by its bootstraps and its is masses better than it has been for many years! Good, sensible, VFM food; great coffee; and an ever changing range of real ales - all at reasonable prices.
Very children (till 9pm) and female-friendly, this is rapidly becoming a good cross between a smart watering hole to meet friends / do business just off the M60 and a good solid 'local', patronised by a range of people from upmarket Worsley as well as the council estate up the road.
Cath is aware of all the pubs 'foibles' and works tirelessly to address them.
If anything, the food and beer have improved, speed of service if getting better, the (new) staff are all much more friendly and noting is too much trouble.
I would recommend this pub to anyone, and if you're someone who thinks any less of it than I do, go speak to Cath/her duty manager (probably either her son or daughter) and let them know what you are unhappy with - they'll soon make it right and ensure it doesn't happen again.
A great 'village pub', born out of the ashes of the horror it had been allowed to become by previous landlords - and so much better than having buldozed it and built yet more trendy flats!

Parents live nearby so visited this place a few times a couple of weeks ago.
A vast improvement on my previous visits. The food was fine and very well priced, the lager was kept well enough and the staff didn't scowl. I would agree though, that they are not the fastest people in the business and waiting to be served seems to be the norm. My only other gripe would be some of the clientele who think they're at home, sprawled over the furniture, feet on seats. Not that the management seemed to mind.
Pity, because in all other respects it's come on leaps and bounds and still worth a visit

The Bridgewater recently reopened and has been nicely refurbished. However, whilst the food is quite good, the service is incredibly slow. When I visited yesterday it took over half an hour for the food to reach the table, despite the pub being almost empty. On the previous occasion I visited it took 45 minutes for the food to arrive. So be warned: Be prepared to wait ages for food, but as for me, I won't bother in future!

been in three times. not welcoming. staff don't talk to you. first visit waited nearly an hour for food and it was quite bad if honest. tried again as we thought it must be an off day. unfortunately same problem. food was terrible. beer was not chilled and tasted out of date or as if it had been in the line for a long time. no atmosphere and an overall no frills experience. shame as the buildingis stunning.
